Game On - September 2008

Starcraft created in Spore

September 30th 2008 03:54
Terran starcraft created in Spore

Though the reviews of Spore have been middling, with most people disappointed in the light gameplay, there's no denying that the game gives you unprecedented control over the control of your creatures and their civilization.

In Korea, though, they're still mad about Starcraft, an old PC game that's flowered into a national sport. You'll see it on TV, with the best players sporting ads and escaping huge packs of screaming girls.

They love Starcraft so much that a Korean gamer bought Spore, then used the creature editor to replicate Starcraft units and buildings.

That's a picture of a Terran base, identical in details, with the exception that the game looks a lot brighter and cheerier. Considering that the Civ level of Spore is an RTS, seeding your world with Terrans and Zergs would essentially lead to a recreation of the entire Starcraft game within Spore.

Whoa - that's too much for me to think about.

And apparently, it's not even that rare - YouTube has a large selection of Starcraft creatures created in Spore, like the Marine:

I still can't get over the amount of time required. Especially to make something like the Goliath, which is so faithful to the original game that it's frightening.

The Force Unleashed Force lighting on a Rancor
Sigh... I've written previous posts on The Force Unleashed, the latest Star Wars-themed game from LucasArts, a game that allows the player to step into the shoes of a powerful apprectice of Darth Vader, wreaking havoc in the Star Wars universe.

Well, I'm not going to dive all the way in, but preliminary reviews of the game are not favourable at all, and I don't think it's because of hype backlash, as in the case of Spore

Abandonware: Re-Volt

Re-Volt abandonware pc gaming
I've only heard excellent things about this ancient PC game, available for free download because no one wants to own it.

It's called Re-Volt, and it's a RC racing game, released back in 1999. Remember when it was 1996, and we'd party like it was 1999? Then 1999 came around and everyone was like 'What - this is it

Samba De Amigo Wii

The samba-inspired rhythm music game made popular in the arcades and the Sega Dreamcast is shaking its way onto the Nintendo Wii by Gearbox Software. Keeping the beat with over 40 songs on a Samba-infused sound track comprised of popular new songs as well as fan-favourites from the original game, players shake the Wii Remote and Nunchuk like maracas in time with the visual beats of the music on-screen and compete with friends to see who has the best moves. Throughout the dynamic songs there will be opportunities to strike a pose for extra points

Fan Remake of Quest for Glory II

Quest for Glory 2 Trial by Fire

Thank Bog for remakes! The adventure game has been on its weak knees for years now, making way for sports and shooters, but it wasn't always like that. When I was a kid, we'd spend hours laboriously trying combinations of phrases that would get us through these fantastic Sierra adventure games.
