Mario Kart on Nintendo Wii

March 27th 2008 07:05
Nintendo Wii Mario Kart

As a Mario Kart fan from all the way back in the SNES days it has been interesting seeing it evolve on the post-SNES consoles all the way to the latest version of the game due for release on the Wii at the end of April.

Mario and all his mates are set to make a spectacular return in a new definitive version of the popular game including 16 exciting new tracks in addition to 16 classic tracks from previous Mario Kart games to provide the most action-packed, adrenaline-filled racing fun ever seen in the series.

A brand new feature of this game is the option of racing with karts or bikes for the first time ever. When a bike is selected, interesting and somewhat different gameplay possibilities exists such as carrying out a “wheelie”, which in turn will give you a small boost that could be crucial and make that all important difference at the finishing line.

As per customary MK fan-fare, a plethora of power-ups and masses of objects for players to use to slow down their rivals will be available. There are also 10 battle arenas to keep players busy between trips around the circuit.

In addition to all this a new Wii Channel, the Mario Kart Channel, will also be launched with Mario Kart Wii. Players will be able to monitor their ranking against others with data compiled from races completed online as well as also access and share Ghost Data to download. Why not see if your friends are playing by checking their status or even better still set up a room in which you can chat to them before a race starts? Players even have the possibility to join in on their friends races in progress as a spectator and jump into the race when the next course launches. Through this channel, users will be exposed to a host of new online features allowing them to join a community of racing fans from all over the world as well as participate in special worldwide events organised by Nintendo

The Zerg in Starcraft 2!

March 12th 2008 10:27
If you've ever played Starcraft, you know that the Zerg are vile beasts, birthed into a world of ichor and slime... ready to burst from the chest of a hungry Englishman at a moment's notice.

But Blizzard knows what they're doing... they launched the Zerg on an audience of hapless Korean gamers, wowing them with the speed and ferocity of the Zergling Rush, the spines of the Zerg... spines, and the leathery flapping of evil bats

The sad success of Grim Fandango

Grim Fandango melange
Last week, the Escapist Magazine published a fantastic article on the critical success and commerical flop of Grim Fandango, a truly marvelous LucasArts adventure game from the 90s.

It was a tough time for adventure game fans... Sierra, famous for their Kings and Space Quest games, were running out of steam, it felt like, with every new adventure game trying harder and harder to feel like an 'interactive movie
