Video Games - May 2007

Stadium Battle

Pokemon Battle Revolution is the new Pokemon title to hit the Nintendo Wii exclusively and it isn’t a surprise following the immense success of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl on the DS. It seems that as the years go on and on, new generations still follow the Pokemon craze and the games are just as great. I still remember playing the original Pokemon Red in 1999 and damn it was a fine game with friends around.

Now players can connect their DS controllers wirelessly to the Wii and control their Pokemon onscreen with the control on the DS stylus. Pokemon Battle Revolution is very much similar to the previous 3D Pokemon titles which featured on the Gamecube. This might disappoint some hardcore Poke-fans but I am sure the wireless inclusion of the Wii controllers and even the DS wireless connection should prove rewarding.

Gamers can catch, train and battle their Pokemon as usual, and can battle opponents in team battles or traditional one on one. My only complaint is that it is not a traditional RPG title – unlike the DS and Gameboy titles. Disappointing but hopefully Nintendo will push forward a 3D RPG perhaps in Pokemon land for the Wii?

Graphically, the game looks like a slightly improved version of the Gamecube statuim titles. This why I am disappointed with the Nintendo Wii – the graphics cannot compare to the PS3 and Xbox 360. But then again, if the gameplay is fun and addictive, then graphics would probably come in 3rd place. This game will certainly be a must-have title on the Wii and will be released in Europe and USA in June.

Invasion of Paris

It’s the Year 2020, and all out war has begun between the US, Europe and reborn Russia. Control of military in space has also caused a difference between the US and Europe, with Russia now holding the main source of oil in the world (with previous resources being exhausted) and now being a target for invasion. EndWar has an interesting plotline which carries the political war theme that we have come to enjoy with Tom Clancy’s games.

Fury attack

Fury is a Massive Multiplayer Online game which is produced by Australian developer Auran. There have been plenty of ‘attacks’ so to say on the online gaming world with many companies looking for that slice of income which has flooded the online market. Set for release at the end of this year, Auran is looking to do just that with their own online RPG game.

Starcraft 2 announced!!

May 21st 2007 14:30

Starcraft 2

1996 and the greatest RTS was released by Blizzard. Over 10 years later and its sequel has now been Officially announced in Souel, Korea at Blizzard Entertainment’s Worldwide Invitational 2007. Starcraft involves an epic plotline of human vs. alien races in the battle for land and survival. Terrains, Zergs and Protos all return in this game with an inclusion of any new race being ruled out (which will be a disappointment to gamers looking for a fresh race to play with).

Big puzzle indeed

Sega have always been my favorite games publisher and Crush - developed by Kuju Entertainment, is an example of what creative and fun gameplay exists in a puzzler for the PSP. This is a quirkly little storyline with Danny, the main character in the game suffering from insomnia and trying to figure out why. His doctor uses a 'crush' machine which creates Danny's dreams into 3D levels which also include nightmares!

Gang bang

I was just browsing the wide variety of MMORPG games available and this game caught my eye: Minions of Mirth. I never really heard of this title and it was interesting to see how it looked quite similar to the Morrowind games and even World of Warcraft which has undoubtably won the gaming market in the online world.

SWAT: Target Liberty

May 13th 2007 03:26
Sierra Entertainment has come a long way since King’s Quest, Space Quest and Police Quest. Their latest project to hit the gaming screen is SWAT: Target Liberty, designed specifically for the PSP system. It ticks all the right boxes: an international terrorist threat; a special weapons and tactics team; and the New York cityscape. A real-life SWAT veteran was called in to the Sierra offices to act as the game’s consultant, so you can sure that SWAT: Target Liberty will be keeping it real.

Grand Theft Auto IV secrets

May 13th 2007 03:20
Everything about the upcoming Grand Theft Auto IV game is top secret. For instance, it’s completely secret that there are more side-activities, and that traffic flow will be different depending on the time of day. It’s totally secret that there are no more loading screens while crossing islands or entering interiors. It’s unbelievably secret that pedestrians are more realistic and diverse. It’s really, really, really secret that you’ll be able to pilot helicopters in the game too.

Nights flying

NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams will be an only Wii title when it is released by Sega by the end of this year. In 1996, the Sega Saturn presented the first NiGHTs title which created a large fan base and showed gamers what a real platformer should play like. Players were flying and gliding around maps of dreams and nightmares from stunning green hills and beautiful waterfalls to gloomy and misty mazes.

Crappy building textures says Spidey

Spiderman 3 just came out last Thursday here in Australia, and I found it a quite enjoyable film. Although I am not a diehard fan of the Spiderman films or the comic books (I only liked Venom as he looked really cool in Capcom’s Street Fighter games and comics), I would have hoped that the game released on consoles would try to match the enjoyable nature of the film. Well it hasn’t panned out that way at all, and Wii/PS2 gamers are suffering the worst.

World of Warcraft Visa card!

May 6th 2007 08:21

WoW visa Card

Believe or not…but gamers of Blizzard’s highly addictive MMORPG - World Of Warcraft, can now be ‘paid to play’ (well sort of). In a marketing tactic people who use this Visa card can accumulate WoW game time significant to 1% for each dollar spent on their credit card (i.e USD $0.01 credit toward the monthly $14.95 payment to play WoW).. Along with that, upon subscription to the card gives players 1 free month of gameplay, including no annual credit card fees
